How do you share file between PCs with your friends?
Probably by copying the file to an external storage like flash drive and then transferring to the receiving PC?
What a long process! And what happens when you don’t have an external storage with you, or the size of the file you want to transfer is bigger than the size of the external storage? Okay I know – transfer it bit by bit…huh!
Those days are gone. Thanks to Lenovo for this powerful app called SHAREit.
SHAREit is a free application from Lenovo that allows you easily share file between PCs, smartphones and tablets at a very high-speed. The speed of SHAREit can reach 20MB/s. According to Lenovo, that’s 40 times faster than Bluetooth.
For me personally, I find SHAREit most useful when transferring file from PC to PC.
With SHAREit, you can share file that is up to 100GB in size.
SHAREit utilizes Wi-Fi radio technology, which means the files are shared over Wi-Fi. You can see it as Flash Share for PCs.
So how do I transfer file to another PC using SHAREit?
First head over to shareit.lenovo.com and download SHAREit to your PC.
You can also download SHAREit for other platforms but the focus here is on PC.
Once SHAREit is downloaded and installed, open it and follow the quick tour to set it up and you are ready to share.
Note: both the receiver and the sender must have SHAREit installed on their PCs and have their Wi-Fi turned on.
Of course you know that, just want to point it out for formality sake.
To share file using SHAREit on PC, the receiver should click on the “Receive” button and wait for the sender, and the sender will of course click on the “Send” button and select the file he wants to share.
Once you have clicked on the send button, you can either drag and drop the file you want to send or click “Browse” button to select the file you want to share.
Once done, click on next to search for available receiver.
Note: you can select more than one file to share at the same time.
Once a receiver is found, click on the receiver and wait for the receiver to accept the incoming file.
The files will begin to send as soon as the receiver accepts the files. And the transfer is pretty fast.
I tried this with a total file of about 60MB and before I could blink, the transfer is over. I normally find the received files in following folder path: Downloads>Shareit.
NOTE: Some devices with wireless cards operating on 802.11a/b/g (using a 2.4 GHz radio) may not be able to find others using the SHAREit SoftAP (which creates a 5GHz hotspot). This is a common issue that can be resolved on the receiver side by going to:
- Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapter
- Next click on the wireless card, and go to: Properties > Advanced > Wireless mode selection.
- Then select a mode without 802.11a
As mentioned above, you can also use SHAREit to transfer files across other platforms, like PC to Android device or vice versa, and the procedure is basically the same.
Here is what SHAREit looks like on Android:
