Few days ago, when I opened my FireFox to browse, a lot of annoying ads didn’t allow me to use the firefox. I wasn’t exactly sure where this ads were coming from, but I was sure it was one of new programs or the new add-on I installed on Firefox.
The ads were so infuriating to the extent that any web page I open, the ads will overtake the page. If I manage to stop the ad from loading (by using the stop button while the page is still loading) and click any link on the page, a new window will pop up full of ads and the page will refresh and still load the ads.
I looked for the source of the ads, and found out that the ads where coming from yxo.wormportriat.com.
After much trials and errors, I was able to figure out how to remove the ads from FireFox.
And here is how to remove the ads…
One thing I learned from this is that whatever that is loading on my browser by default is coming from the installation folder of the browser on my computer.
Having noted this, I opened C:>>Program files (x86)>>Mozilla Firefox and observed the dates the files in the folder were created and I noticed that there was a folder (by name “browser”) that the date was newer. When I opened this folder, I saw another folder (by name “default”) that the date was newer than the rest of files in the browser folder.
On opening the “default” folder, it contained only one Java script file so I delete the “default” folder and opened my firefox again and the annoying ads were gone!
You can follow the same steps to easily remove pop up ads form Firefox or any other browser.
One quick tip:
If after delete a file from the installation folder and the browser stopped working or the ad is still not removed, you can restore the file from the recycle bin.
If after deleting a file and the ads stop popping up, you can then permanently delete the file from the recycle bin.
